Forum with Shia Communities and Youth leaders ( October)
AMAFHH organized a forum with Shia communities and youth leaders to engage into dialogue / discussion. As part of the initiatives we intend to set up meetings with AFP & Vic Police to open lines of communication between the government agencies and Shia community and youth leaders and mutually engage in positive measures to tackle the impact of overseas (Middle East, especially Syria and Iraq) situations in Australia.
Forum purpose: To discuss the objectives and concerns in regards to the situation. To gain opinions and views so that we can initiate projects that tailor around those objectives to support Shia communities and Muslims in large.
Few of the suggested list of objectives are:
a. Engaging Shia youth with the right messages to ensure they do not get influenced by holding unreasonable views from others (both within Australia and through the internet / social media)
b. Ensuring that Shia youth do not feel marginalised / disenfranchised within the Australian community.
c. Remove the sense of real / perceived victimisation from our mindsets
d. Help parents recognize early signs of non-conventional behaviour patterns and implement early intervention.
